On May 25, 2013, I participated in the first public event of the program ‘The World Inside Out’ at Witte de With, Rotterdam, with a performative intervention on the geopolitics of Lapis Lazuli in Afghanistan. During my presentation I drew on the map of the Middle East, showing how since ancient times lapis lazuli had played an important role in the geopolitics of Afghanistan, with a focus on the exploitation of the mines during Afghanistan’s protracted civil war, 1978-2001.

After the presentation we were treated to an amazing ‘blue’ dinner by food artists Bauke Knottnerus & Claartje Lindhout.
